Taylor Swift and the American Civil Liberties Union are not seeing eye to eye with each other lately.
The ACLU recently sent Taylor Swift’s legal team a passionate letter to stop the singer from suing a blogger who accused Taylor with allegedly supporting the white supremacy movement.

Yes, you read that correctly. A blogger named Meghan Herning wrote a piece on Popfront.us called “Swiftly to the alt-right: Taylor subtly gets the lower case kkk in formation.” It talks in detail about how Taylor Swift’s “good-girl unjustly wronged” image is just a front, how her lyrics are “dog whistles to white supremacy,” and even compares her to Hitler at one point. Herning also points out Taylor swift’s silence in the 2016 election, stating: “And there is no way to know for sure if Taylor is a Trump supporter or identifies with the white nationalist message, but her silence has not gone unnoticed.”
Let me just say, the whole blog post is wild from beginning to end. Taylor Swift’s legal team agrees with me too, because they sent Megan Herning (who is actually the exclusive editor, mind you) a strongly worded letter stating the blog post needs to cease and desist or else she can catch a defamatory case.

ACLU clapped back stating the blog post “is a mix of core political speech and critical commentary; it discusses current politics in this country, the recent rise of white supremacy, and the fact that some white supremacists have apparently embraced Ms. Swift, along with a critical interpretation of some of Ms. Swift’s music, lyrics, and videos.”
Basically ACLU believes that Megan Herning is practicing free speech, she will not remove the blog post, and Taylor Swift does not have a case against her.
By the way, the idea that white nationalists idolize Taylor isn’t new. Online Nazis have worshiped Tay as their princess since as early as May 2016. And it’s totally fine for a journalist to point that out. This is just another chapter in Taylor Swift’s legal woes novel.
